| CAFFARELLI PALACE - Half the block between Via Condotti, Via Belsiana, Via Bocca di Leone and Via delle Carrozze, belonged in 1500 to the count Della Porta Rodiani. When in the first half of 1800 the last male heir died, the palace was inherited by Maria Giacinta, who married a member of the princely family Massimo, and Maria Laura, who in 1852 married Duke Giuseppe Caffarelli who finally inherited the entire estate. On the night of August 26th, 1893 a huge fire destroyed part of the block which was partly rebuilt by the architect Francesco Azzurri (1831-1901). In this same period the entire complex was redesigned. The Caffarelli family still lives in the palace. This complex of buildings hosts many famous names from the world of italian fashion such as Battistoni, Mila Shon, Lancetti and Versace. |
